1 workshop = 2 workshops

Aula Remake is a workshop; actually it's two workshops at the same time

The Manifesta 8 education spaces are located in Pabellón 2 del Antiguo Cuartel de Artilleria in Murcia and in the kitchen of the former Prisión de San Antón in Cartagena.

You are welcome to join the workshops, being developed simultaneously, in either of the two cities. The starting points are two spaces filled with memories and old furniture. in the former San Antón prison the remains of the kitchen equipment and of the prison furniture will be the raw material for our workshop, and in Pabellón 2 we'll be working with recycled exhibition materials.

The workshop runs from: 16 until 19 September, 2010.

Aula Remake
Design and construction workshop with recycled materials.

From 16th to 19th september 2010

Lead by and design collectives Makea tu Vida and Magatzems: Antonio de Falco, Francesco Intrieri, Aurelio Ayela, Juan José Ibañez, Mireia Juan y Alberto Flores.

Do you remember the kind of chairs your school had? Do you think classrooms need a change? Do you like to recycle? Have you got old furniture that you would like to give a new life? Come and join us for a workshop on thinking, design and collaborative construction. The workshop is open to everyone including artists, neighbors, designers, architects, carpenters, educators, ect.

Education demands new settings. In traditional classrooms furniture and space design define the links between students and teachers. Something similar can happen in museums and exhibition spaces where the relation with the public is regulated and determined through the architecture.

Education at Manifesta 8 is aimed at facilitating approaches to contemporary art and, at the same time, reflecting on educational conventions in the context of art, experimenting with formats and proposing new relations between art and the public, the institution and the public, the Manifesta Biennial and the social context in which it finds itself.

The construction of the Biennial's spaces defines several uses and roles for the visitors. The workshop is intended to conceive, design and build new education spaces in a collaborative way, which will house Manifesta 8's educational activities. In this workshop people are invited to reflect on education and its methods based on the designs of the settings in which they are situated, offering new relationships between students and teachers, between schools and their surrounding areas, between contemporary art and the public.
